Surfacing the Willenhall Greenway Route for Crown Highways

Customer requirements

The customer required improved local connectivity and a more welcoming outdoor environment for residents in Willenhall.

This involved upgrading existing public footpaths that were overgrown, uneven, and limited to narrow soil tracks.

Carrying out the work

Crown Highways appointed MAC Groundwork Contractors to deliver the groundworks and surfacing for multiple sections of the new footpath.

The project began with excavation and subbase preparation as part of the groundwork phase, followed by asphalt surfacing works delivered in phases.

Groundworks

The paths were excavated in preparation for the subbase.

3,678m2 of type 1 stone was supplied, installed and compacted.

2,382 linear metres of PPC edgings were supplied and installed.

3,588m2 of grass seed was supplied and sown.

Asphalt Surfacing

To complete the footpath construction, 4,000m2 of asphalt was laid along various sections.

This comprised of both a binder and a surface course.

The best solution

We carried out extensive groundworks and surfacing, transforming these areas into smooth and well-connected asphalt pathways.

The completed route now offers a safe and user-friendly surface, ideal for both walking and cycling.

The final result

Crown Highways were extremely pleased with the outcome of the work carried out by MAC Groundworks.

The completed project has significantly enhanced the local area, encouraging active travel and outdoor leisure for the community.
