Customer requirements
School for Inspiring Talents needed to replace a worn tarmac play area with a safe, modern, and durable multi-sport surface. The facility needed to support a range of sports and activities, with improved safety underfoot and clear markings for structured use.

Carrying out the work
We began by setting up a safe and secure working environment, delivering plant and establishing site welfare facilities. Temporary security fencing was installed, and the area was assessed for levels and drainage capability. Detailed setting out was completed to ensure accurate boundaries and alignment for the new MUGA system.
Preparation of the existing tarmac surface included core drilling to improve drainage and surface bonding. Localised drainage improvements were carried out at the entrance, and rubber edging was installed to provide a safe and clearly defined perimeter.
Groundworks
Drilled through the existing tarmac base to allow for localised drainage.
Prepared the surface for the artificial grass system installation.
Installed rubber edging for safety and visual boundary control.
Surfacing
Installed an artificial grass system with a cushioned non-slip finish.
Applied vivid multi-sport line marking for multiple sports use.
The best solution
From the outset, we worked closely with the school to ensure all requirements were met. The agreed approach was to adapt the existing surface, improve drainage and install a professional-grade artificial grass MUGA system complete with safety edging and clear markings. This provided the safest and most cost-effective outcome while delivering long-term durability.
The final result
The completed MUGA is now a clean, professional sports surface that is safe, visually appealing, and highly functional. It is used daily for recreation and structured PE lessons.
