Heavy Duty Concrete Pad Installation in Telford for St-Gobain

The new slab was required to support the movement and storage of heavy goods vehicles, including forklift traffic, improving the site’s operational capacity for logistics and storage.

About the project

St-Gobain Limited commissioned MAC Groundwork Contractors to install a new heavy-duty concrete pad at a site in Telford.

MAC Groundwork Contractors were selected based on our proven capabilities as a Tier 1 Level Management Contractor, trusted to manage both the design and delivery of the works while keeping disruption to daily site activities to a minimum.

Carrying out the work

The project was planned to operate alongside day-to-day site operations, with careful management to minimise disruption.

Groundworks and Civils

Removed existing kerbs and signage.

Excavated and disposed of sub-base materials.

Installed an additional sub-base layer to meet CBR requirements.

Placed perimeter formwork and kerbs.

Installed steel reinforcement in accordance with the engineered design.

Concrete Installation

Installed a heavy-duty concrete slab with full expansion joints and crack control features.

Completed the surface with an Easy Float finish, providing a smooth, durable surface suitable for heavy goods vehicle use.

The best solution

MAC Groundworks delivered a full design and build package for the project. Working with our appointed Structural Engineer, we created a bespoke slab design tailored to the operational requirements of the client.

Before construction began, we carried out trial holes and ground investigation and CBR testing to assess the site’s ground conditions. This early-stage analysis ensured the final solution was robust, compliant and built for long-term use.
