Transforming two community parks in Bloxwich and Leamore into safer, greener and more accessible public spaces.
About the project
Walsall Council tasked MAC Groundworks with upgrading two well-used public parks: Bloxwich Park including the Memorial Gardens (Pat Collins) and Leamore Park. The Council wanted safer routes, upgraded play areas, improved accessibility and long-lasting surfacing and landscaping.
The brief included new play equipment, resin-bound, impact-absorbing and asphalt surfacing, a Golden Mile walking route, and durable furniture and lighting. Works had to be delivered around mature trees, established pathways and community features, while keeping both parks partially open throughout the programme.
Why the Council Chose MAC Groundworks
Walsall Council selected MAC Groundworks for our experience delivering large and complex public sector projects that bring together technical excellence in groundworks, civil engineering, surfacing, soft landscaping and specialist play installations.
The Council valued our careful approach to working in active community spaces and our strong safety record.
Implementation
The project began at Leamore Park before progressing across Bloxwich Park and the Memorial Gardens. Detailed site preparation and careful planning ensured a safe and e cient programme of works.
Public access remained a priority throughout. The team used secure fencing, clear signage and monitored diversion routes, with daily inspections to keep pathways open wherever possible. All mature trees were protected and community features were handled with care, including the relocation of the Davy Lamp sculpture, which required precise lifting and reinstatement.
Our team provided practical improvements to the brief, including the removal of dense hedging near older play areas to improve visibility and create more open, welcoming spaces.
