Choosing the right size is one of the first decisions to make when planning a multi-use games area. There is no single size that will suit every school, community facility or leisure site. The right dimensions depend on how the facility will be used, which sports you want to accommodate and how much space is available.
Start with how you will use it
Think about the activities that will take place on the facility.
Will it primarily support PE and general play? Will there be after-school clubs? Could it also be used by community groups or for evening lettings?
The answers will help determine how much space you need.
Consider the people using it
The number of users is important too. A facility designed around one class or group may have very different requirements from one intended to accommodate several activities or groups.
Make the most of the available space
Space can often be one of the biggest constraints when planning a MUGA. Typical configurations range from smaller facilities through to larger areas designed to accommodate more activities. The final layout should make sensible use of the available site while reflecting the intended use.
You do not necessarily need the biggest possible facility. You need the right facility for your users.
