FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What's involved in play area construction?
A complete play area installation covers site clearance and groundworks, excavation and drainage, base construction and edging, safety surfacing, equipment installation and anchoring, and fencing, seating and litter bins. We manage the full build, ensuring all installations meet current safety standards and providing certification on completion.
What surfacing is best for a play area?
There are four main options. Wetpour rubber is seamless, colourful and safe, making it one of the most popular choices for schools and public spaces. Bonded rubber mulch offers a more natural appearance at a lower cost. Artificial grass is soft, low-maintenance and versatile. Engineered wood fibre is a sustainable and traditional option, though it does require periodic topping up. The right surface depends on budget, aesthetics, safety requirements and maintenance capacity, and we can advise on what works best for your site.
Can an existing play area be refurbished rather than replaced?
Yes. We offer play area refurbishment including surfacing repairs and replacement and equipment upgrades. Refurbishment is often a cost-effective way to extend the life of an existing facility and bring it back up to current safety standards, without the need for a full new installation.
Do you install play areas across the UK?
Yes. We deliver play area installation and refurbishment nationwide, working with schools, local authorities, housing developers and community groups. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to upgrade an existing facility, we’re happy to give honest, practical advice at any stage of the project.
What safety standards apply to play areas?
All play areas must comply with EN 1176, which covers playground equipment safety, EN 1177, which relates to impact-absorbing surfacing, and BS 7188, which covers installation and inspection. We ensure every installation meets current safety standards and provide full certification on completion, giving clients confidence that the facility is safe and compliant from day one.
