About the project
MAC Groundwork Contractors Ltd supported Bradleys Surfacing Systems in the complete construction of a new outdoor sports pitch at Cotham School in Bristol.
Designed to provide an all-weather, high-performance playing surface for both rugby and football, the project was part of the school’s ongoing commitment to improving sporting facilities for its students and wider community. This large-scale installation with a total working area of 2,200m² was carried out to World Rugby Standards and was independently tested to confirm it meets the World Rugby Regulations.
Groundworks
Full excavation and site preparation.
Top surface layer of stone and asphalt laser laid to obtain a flat surface within regulation tolerances.
Formation of an engineered porous macadam base.
Integrated subsoil drainage to promote year-round usability.
Sports Fencing
Installation of 3m-high twin-bar perimeter fencing for pitch security and safety.
Surfacing Support
Support with installation of 20mm in-situ Nova Sport shock pad.
Assistance with laying of TigerTurf Rugby 360 3G surface to meet World Rugby performance standards.
Delivering a World-Class sports surface
We worked closely with the customer to ensure that their requirements were met. The proposed solution was for our team to work in close partnership with Bradleys Surfacing Systems as the principal contractor. MAC Groundwork Contractors completed the full groundworks package. This included excavation, formation of a robust engineered base and assistance with the installation of both the shock pad and synthetic playing surface.
We also installed a secure 3m perimeter fence system, ensuring safety and durability for high-impact sports. The project was delivered efficiently and to specification, thanks to strong coordination across all site teams.
The final result
The result is a durable, all-weather pitch that supports a wide range of sporting activity.
With improved drainage, a shock-absorbent underlayer, and a state-of-the-art 3G surface, Cotham School now has a facility that supports both PE curriculum needs and after-school sports.
